Instantly translate Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) between Unicode and DNS-compatible ASCII (xn--) with built-in homograph spoofing detection.
Under original internet RFC standards, domain labels were strictly constrained to the LDH subset (Letters, Digits, Hyphen). As the internet expanded globally, users required domain names in their native writing systems—including Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Devanagari, Japanese, and accented European Latin characters.
Rather than completely overhauling the root DNS server architecture, the IETF developed IDNA (Internationalizing Domain Names in Applications) and Punycode (RFC 3492). Under this scheme, client software automatically translates Unicode domain strings into an ASCII string prefixed with xn-- before issuing DNS lookups.
| Script / Language | Unicode Domain (IDN) | Punycode Encoding (DNS ACE) |
|---|---|---|
| German (Umlaut) | münchen.de | xn--mnchen-3ya.de |
| Chinese (Simplified) | 中文.com | xn--fiq228c.com |
| Emoji Domain | ❤️.ws | xn--qe8h.ws |
| Homograph Spoof (Cyrillic 'а') | аpple.com | xn--pple-43d.com |
